July 2009 Letter
Dear Band Members and Parents,
I cant believe June is over already! It seems like we started our practice season just the other day. Before we know it the July letter is in your mailbox. Once again I hope that your experience so far has been a good one for both band members and parents. I believe the performances have gone very well and everyone has worked very hard. Thank you all for attending and supporting your band members! July will be a busy month with some very important performances. Please make every effort to be at the concerts. Council and Section leaders, please be sure to let me know when you will not be at an event.
Just a few reminders Please leave your instrument case in your car. If you must, you may leave it in the trailer. Please stay in your uniform from the time you leave your car to the time you get back in your car after the concert. Also, please come to the concert site rain or shine.
If you have not turned in your pop yet please bring a 12 pack of Mt. Dew. This is what we need right now so no matter want we told you before if you have not handed in your pop we need Mt. Dew.
JULY 2 HEATH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION
We will NOT be playing at concert at this event this year. We do need help with the food booth we will have. If you can help with a shift from 4:00 7:00 or the one from 7:00 until we are done please see Dannette at one of the next few concerts.
DIRECTIONS: Take Rt. 16 into Newark. You can take the Rt. 79 South exit and go South on Rt. 79 to 30th Street. You will need to go North on 30th Street to Cynthia Dr. which is past the light at Claren Dr. in Heath. Cynthia will be the next Street past Claren. If you would like you could also get off Rt. 16 at the Church Street exit. Take Church Street to 30th Street and go South on 30th Street. After you cross the railroad tracks you will need to look for Cynthia Street. If you get to Claren Dr. you have gone too far.
JULY 4th GRANVILLE PARADE
All Band Members need to be there no later than 9:00am. We will meet at Wildwood Park in Granville which is on the east end of Broadway. If you do not get to the line up site early you may not make it there before the parade starts. It is difficult to get there much past 9:00 because they will begin closing streets. So be sure to be on time to avoid the heavy traffic. We will have water there for the Band Members to drink. We do suggest that everyone have breakfast before they get there. Once again this parade is very well attended and we need everyone to be there if at all possible. Please EVERYONE let Jane know if you will not be attending this event. The parade will end at the corner of College St. and Granger St. the opposite end of the town from where we start. Be sure to make arrangements to meet your Band Member at the end of the route. PARENTS every year we have band members who do not know where to meet their parents. Please make arrangements ahead of time. The Band will disperse as soon as we finish the parade. We need you to be at the end of the parade route when we are, unless you have made other arrangements with your band member.
We will have a short break once we finish the parade. We encourage band members to grab a bite to eat and make their way toward the bandstand. We will begin setting up for the concerts as soon as the parade ends and we are able to get the trailer there. All band members will need to meet at the staging area by 12:00. We will play two concerts one at 12:30 and the other at 1:15. The alumni will play a short concert during our break and then they will also join in for a few songs during our second concert. If you have an extra instrument and would not mind if an alumnus would play it please bring it along. It is up to you if you would like to do this and it is also up to you to be sure you get your instrument back after the alumni are finished playing with us during the second concert. This is a fun concert and we always have a very large crowd. Please let Jane know if you will not be attending.
DIRECTIONS FOR THE PARADE DROP OFF: The directions to where we meet for the parade are as follows: you will need to take Rt. 16 into Granville and take the Rt. 16 exit and go towards Granville. You will intersect with Broadway, and you will need to turn left. We will meet at Wildwood Park just on the western edge of Granville. Once again the parade does not end where we begin so be sure to meet your band members at the corner of Granger and College Streets near the eastern edge of Granville.
DIRECTIONS FOR THE CONCERT SITE: My suggestion is to find a place to park when you drop you band members off for the parade and keep that spot. Parking can be very difficult. We will be playing in front of the bandstand at the corner of Broadway and Prospect. Look for the chair trailer.

We suggest you dress very cool and you may also bring a fan and a water bottle. It is usually very warm. We will not be using the fans or water bottles during the actual concert.
